PISTOL AND PARIS SUCCESFULLY SHIPS 20KG OF DRIED CANNABIS TO JAMAICA

20kg cannabis shipment to Jamaica from Canada

Pistol and Paris, a cannabis brand from British Columbia, announced that they have made history by completing the first-ever shipment of 20 kilograms of cannabis grown in British Columbia to Jamaica on February 13th. The brand’s indoor strain, Tranquil Elephantizer, which is not yet available in Jamaica, was included in the shipment with the help of a BC-based partner, Cannaviva, according to Kris Walton, who assisted Pistol and Paris.

“We’re looking at this as an opportunity,” says Walton.

According to Walton, Canada has a well-established cannabis market, but it mostly offers Canadian cannabis. He believes that other countries also produce quality cannabis, just like how a wine shop offers wine from different regions It’s like going into a wine shop and seeing wine from Chile or France or California.”. Getting authorization to export cannabis to Jamaica wasn’t an easy process, as stated by Dylan King, the owner of Pistol and Paris. The company had to go through a lengthy authorization process with both Canadian and Jamaican authorities, which took more than six months. While larger Canadian cannabis companies have made headlines with international shipments, Pistol and Paris is the first small, locally-owned business to do so.

Dylan King owner of Pistol and Paris said, obtaining authorization to send their cannabis product to Jamaica was a difficult process that involved several obstacles. It was not as simple as filling out an application and sending it out. Instead, the process involved navigating through several complicated logistics. In recent weeks, concerns have been raised by local politicians and other figures in Jamaica over the shipment of cannabis from a foreign country, given that Jamaica is renowned for its own cannabis production.

King and Walton understand the concerns raised by local Jamaican growers and hope to extend similar opportunities to bring Jamaican cannabis to Canada. King, who has visited Jamaica many times and is familiar with the growers and their culture, expresses his desire to bring Jamaican weed to Canada. They plan to visit Jamaica and assist the growers with the complex process of exporting their products to Canada. Walton, who recently escorted the shipment to Jamaica, shares their sentiments.

The controversy surrounding the import of cannabis from Canada to Jamaica is partly due to concerns from local growers who are still seeking licenses to grow cannabis. Canada, on the other hand, does not allow for similar imports, except for limited medical and research purposes. In March 2022, Canada had only received 25 kilograms of cannabis from outside the country, which were authorized for scientific purposes only, out of a total of 80 kilograms authorized. The Jamaican Cannabis Licensing Authority (CLA) approved the import from Canada, but some locals are questioning why Canada does not allow for similar imports. In response, the CLA stated that it is unaware of any restrictions on the importation of Jamaican cannabis into Canada and has approved 224 export permits for Jamaican ganja and only four import permits. King and Walton hope to help extend similar opportunities to bring Jamaican cannabis to Canada as well.
